Snares are still widely used by the shooting industry to ensure there are enough ‘game’ birds to be shot for so-called ‘sport’. Government figures show up to 200,000 of these traps lie hidden in the English countryside at any one time.
The Welsh Government banned snares in 2023, and the Scottish Government’s ban has now come into force as well. England is lagging behind, and animals are suffering because of it.
The UK government committed, in its manifesto, to ban the use of snares in England and now we need to make sure MPs will back the legislation when it comes to Parliament.
The time for change is now.
There is now an early day motion – a motion used by MPs in the Commons to draw the attention of the House to a particular issue – calling for a ban on snares.
Please write to your MP and ask them to sign the early day motion calling for a ban on the use of snares in England.
